Anita van den Hoek

Dr. Anita van den Hoek has a background in Biomedical Sciences and joined TNO in 2006. She is a senior scientist within the Metabolic Health Research department. Her research aims to promote metabolic health and focuses around underlying mechanisms and therapy of metabolic diseases such as the Metabolic Syndrome, NASH and cardiovascular disease. This often involves the use of translational experimental models, evaluation of novel pharmaceutical or nutritional therapies and the application of omics technologies to unravel disease mechanisms. Via collaboration with academic partners or University Medical Centers she’s also involved in the supervision of PhD students that conduct their research at TNO. She is a study director of multiple projects including both fee for service and public private partnerships and recently also established a large international consortium ‘Muscle Health’ that is studying gender differences in pathogenesis of frailty and sarcopenia.
