Governance of data and algorithm for urban policy (Leiden University)
Research area
Digital policy and digital governance focus on developing mechanisms that enable effective and responsible digitalisation, such as regulation, governance arrangements, and policy labs for experimentation. These fields have grown in importance with the increased use of artificial intelligence (AI). Two important pillars of this research field are studies on the take-up and effects of digital technologies on society, and the development of methodologies for effective and responsible digitalisation. Examples of the take-up and effects of digitalisation are the use of algorithm in the public sector, and on public values and practices (pdf) of responsible data science. An example of the development of methodologies is TNO’s Policy Lab, conducting experiments with municipalities on the use of data analytics and AI, for societal challenges such as the energy transition and social policy.
