Bas Henzing
Bas is a social business developer looking for the common good. Having been a researcher for 25 years, he now mainly directs climate and air quality research as a manager.
We help national and international governments towards cleaner air and verifiable emission reduction strategies.
Bas's areas of expertise are: greenhouse gases, air quality, particulate matter, emissions, modelling, and measurements.
Bas graduated as a physicist in meteorology and physical oceanography after which he obtained a PhD in turbulence and vertebral dynamics. After this academic period, he mainly did applied research on the role of particulate matter as a climate disturber, air quality indicator, risk factor in industry, or disturbance in the earth observation domain. In Europe, he played an important role in harmonising complex measurements of particulate matter such as black carbon, particle size distribution of (ultra)fine dust and further physicochemical characterisation.
As manager of the research position on climate, biodiversity and air quality, he ensures that technological measurement and modelling methods are aligned with real-world practice. This includes issues related to the climate and nitrogen crisis. In addition, he focuses on changing concerns about air quality, influenced by the energy transition, for example.
