Chris van der Ploeg

Functie:
Medior Scientist Specialist

At TNO, I focus on enhancing the self-awareness and situational awareness of automated vehicles. By improving the vehicle’s self-awareness, it can better identify its own limitations, thereby preventing potentially unsafe situations.

'By increasing situational awareness, the vehicle can more accurately predict what might happen in a traffic situation and therefore anticipate better than currently commercially available vehicles or human-driven vehicles.'

Chris van der Ploeg is a Medior Scientist Specialist at TNO. He obtained degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Systems and Control (cum laude) from TU Delft. In 2024, he completed his PhD research on fault diagnosis and the detection of visual obstructions in self-driving vehicles at TU Eindhoven. ‘We need to automate for the right reasons. I mainly want to make the roads safer.’
