Research Area

Nicole van Kesteren is a behavioral scientist, PhD, and an expert in women’s studies. Since 2006, she has worked as a researcher at TNO Child Health, where she leads the Work & Family knowledge agenda within the Women’s Health program and collaborates closely with TNO colleagues from various disciplines to develop innovative solutions.

Main topics: Equal distribution of work and care, evidence-based intervention development, women’s health, economic resilience, coalition-building, scaling up.

Women’s Health and Work-Family Balance

Nicole develops, implements, and evaluates interventions that contribute to women’s health and a better work-family balance, with a focus on themes such as menstruation, pregnancy, parenthood, and menopause. Additionally, she works on improving the economic resilience of women and researches how the reach and informed choice regarding breast cancer and cervical cancer screenings can be enhanced for women in vulnerable neighborhoods. She collaborates closely with women, men, mothers, fathers, youth, and organizations in practice, policy, and research. Through coalition-building and scaling up evidence-based interventions, she aims to increase societal impact in both the public and private domains.
