Rogier van der Wal

Functie:
Senior Scientist

Rogier is senior scientist and project manager for topics relating to survivability of (naval) platforms, with a special interest in ballistics, ballistic protection and fire development across a warship after a threat weapon attack. He works on solutions to increase the resilience of ships and to safeguard its crew.

Rogier supported the teams that designed the Holland Class vessels, joint support vessel Zr. Ms. Karel Doorman and the Anti-Submarine Warfare Frigate (ASWF). Developing fundamental knowledge and research into practical products such as the HARNESS protection bulkheads is an aspect of the work at TNO he particularly likes.

Over the past years, Rogier and colleagues brought their knowledge together in the Resilient Ship Design Course: five days packed with detailed information for fellow researchers, ship designers and procurement officers.

In March of 2024 Rogier joined the National Reserve of the Royal Netherlands Navy. His ambition is to bring technical knowledge to the fleet and vice versa operational experience to TNO. And of course to serve the country in times of need.

Recent publications: Simulation of damage control for lean manned warships for the Naval Damage Control Conference 2024 and From Functional Arrangement to Vulnerability Assessment: Automating Naval Ship Design for Enhanced Survivability Analysis for the International Marine Design Conference 2024.
