Internship | high efficiency flexible perovskite solar cell development

About this position

Perovskite solar cells belong to the family of thin film photovoltaic technologies. They are based on a thin layer of hybrid metal halide perovskite as absorber, in the order of a micron thick, which converts the solar irradiation to photo-generated current. One of the advantages of perovskite photovoltaics is that the layers constituting the cell can be solution processed at relatively low temperatures (sheet (S2S) and roll to roll (R2R) slot die coating technique, where the coating ink is deposited in a controlled manner using the slot die system. TNO has developed a unique expertise in ambient processed perovskite cells using environmentally benign, non-toxic solvent systems, reaching efficiencies up to 18% and 16% with S2S and R2R manufacturing routes respectively.

What will be your role?

The tasks for intern in this project are:

  • Development of a fully functional, efficient perovskite solar cell stack on flexible substrates
  • Implementation of perovskite absorber that will be suited for single junction applications
  • Implementation of nanoparticle buffer layer for making semi-transparent and stable cells.

What we expect from you

  • A background in physics, chemistry, material science or electrical engineering. High motivation, with a curious nature and a taste for problem-solving.
  • Ability to work autonomously and good social skills to interact with your team and get the information you need from the most knowledgeable people around you.
  • The duration of this project should be minimum six months, preferably in the MSc phase of your study. You need to be affiliated with a university during the internship for eligibility!
