Project manager Semicon Equipment Lifetime | Delft / Hybrid
Want to make your mark on our time? Become a Project Manager at TNO in Delft!
What will be your role?
Define the pace of computing power development!
Leading chipmakers use manufacturing equipment to mass produce computer chips that are smaller, faster and greener. Over the next decade, Dutch manufacturing equipment powered by TNO technology will define the pace of computing power development.
The world’s advanced technology production methods rely on extreme vacuum, high energy photons, and ultra-cleanliness. We support the world-leading manufacturers of semiconductor equipment around the world with our knowledge of exactly those topics; optics and material lifetime and contamination control, aiming at prevention, analysis and mitigation of contaminants or potential defects at nanoscale. We perform experimental work in our Van Leeuwenhoek Laboratory, which houses a wide range of state of the art facilities: in-house built ultraclean vacuum equipment, EUV exposure facilities, XPS surface analysis systems, plasma exposure setups, equipment for nanoparticle detection and much more.
One of our main goals is to support our partners worldwide and enable the continuing development of EUV lithography for high-volume manufacturing.

What we expect from you
The major part of our work is focussed on experimental projects. We investigate lifetime effects on optics and materials under extreme conditions similar to those in EUV lithography systems. We design and perform novel experiments with unique and dedicated setups. We then often also do surface analysis, also with setups in house. Our group is expert on all the various aspects that may impact lifetime performance.
As a project manager in our group you will manage such projects, as well as support our experimental teams to keep the various work-requests coordinated. We work in a dynamic field, so regular re-tuning/re-ordering between projects on resources is a given. As part of that, you also will have a lot of contact with our semicon-industry customers. We ask our project managers to be first point of action on that, although it is important to always team with your project scientific leads in these cases. Often you may need to work to a short deadline to re-align with our internal and external customers. We have several procedures in place to make sure this is managed well.
You will be part of a professional team of project managers. Together you challenge yourselves to continuously develop and grow your abilities, so that we all can keep bringing our best. To this end many opportunities also exist: courses, workshops, coaching, intervision, mentoring and job rotation. Also as a department as a whole we work as a team.
Our project managers work the full scope of a project, from initial conversations with the customer, to proposal definition and project execution to result delivery. In all phases we work in close cooperation with our customers. These projects will mostly involve experimental work one or more of our facilities and set-ups. You will lead small teams of scientific specialists and experimentalists, mainly in the area of physics, surface chemistry, and vacuum systems. Together with your team and in alignment with your customers, you work towards a successful result. You will manage several projects in parallel.
Our ideal candidate would recognize themselves in this profile:
- A BSc or MSc (or PhD) in physics, chemistry, electrical or mechanical engineering, or similar;
- At least 3 years proven experience in a project management role in a high tech systems environment, preferably in the semicon domain;
- Good people and team management skills;
- Flexibility in your organizational and communication styles;
- A growth mindset, and looking to develop leadership skills;
- A structured but pragmatic way of working and a pro-active customer- and result-oriented attitude;
- A good mastery of the English language, both verbal and written.
- The job opening has been created to attune to a growing workload for the group.
Please be aware that our sister department Semicon Equipment and Metrology also will have a vacancy for Project Management available soon. Should you be interested in applying for both, it suffices to indicate your interest for both in one application. We aim to combine our selection processes.
