Introduction

We have an exciting opportunity for a Scientist in Inorganic Materials and Material Synthesis to join our team. You will be part of Brightlands Materials Center’s Sustainable Buildings program (Home - Brightlandsmaterialscenter).
The role
As a Scientist inorganic materials and material synthesis you are responsible for synthesizing (sol-gel; hydrothermal) and characterizing inorganic materials, more specifically metal oxides such as VO2, SiO2, TiO2, ZrO2 and Fe3O4. These materials will find their way to applications in the form of powders, nanodispersions, coatings, or nanocomposite polymer films. The targeted applications relate to the energy and materials transition. Examples of applications are smart windows, photovoltaics, and inductive heating for energy efficient and circular processes.
You have a solid background in inorganic materials, are experienced in material synthesis and acquainted with frequently used characterization techniques (e.g., X-ray diffraction, dynamic light scattering, laser diffraction, scanning- and transmission electron microscopy).
Your main tasks will include:
- Executing research projects in the field of inorganic materials and material synthesis. You will spent part of your time on lab work;
- Coordinating the work of researchers and students in projects;
- Supporting the development of new projects in your field of expertise (project acquisition);
- Publishing and presenting your work, both internally and externally.
In addition to the tasks above, you will be responsible for:
- Excellent execution of research projects;
- Communication with customers and partners on scientific progress and project results;
- Supporting new project definition and acquisition in your expertise;
- Developing a network with academic and industrial partners.
What we expect from you
We’re looking for a scientist who’s excited about materials innovation and thrives in a collaborative environment.
We’d love to hear from you if you:
- Hold a PhD or equivalent experience in inorganic materials chemistry;
- Have hands-on experience with material synthesis techniques (e.g., sol-gel, hydrothermal) and material characterization (e.g., X-ray diffraction, SEM/TEM);
- Enjoy working in multidisciplinary teams within material chemistry and functional coatings or film applications;
- Communicate your ideas clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing;
- Are a proactive team player with a result-driven, customer-oriented mindset;
- Are fluent in English. Proficiency in Dutch is a plus, or you're willing to learn.

The selection process
Please apply before the 28th of January, 2025. The selection process comprises two interview rounds. In a final meeting we will discuss the terms of employment and your tailored benefits package. We aim to finalize the entire process within four weeks.
