Junior scientist cybersecurity | The Hague

Contributing to the development of advanced technology for detecting sophisticated cyberattacks alongside diverse national and international partners. Can you picture it? Join TNO in The Hague as a Junior Scientist Cyber Security.

About this position

At TNO, we possess deep expertise in (technical) cyber security, quantitative models, and algorithms, as well as extensive experience in developing and applying innovative technology and methodologies. With this knowledge and experience, you and your team ensure that organizations can rely on secure and robust ICT networks and services, now and in the future. You’ll collaborate intensively with partners such as universities, other research institutes, service providers, and product suppliers, both in the Netherlands and abroad. The contributions of your department range from independent consulting to exploratory research on promising technologies. Additionally, we make technology applicable to specific clients or contexts, for example, by developing proof-of-concepts. Our research clients include defense organizations, financial institutions, telecom service providers, and companies in the mobility and logistics sectors. For many of these clients, secure and robust ICT is a critical success factor for their business.

What will be your role?

As a Cyber Security Scientist, you have a fascination for technology and are eager to learn about new technologies and related topics. You will quickly become part of project teams working on innovations in Cyber Security, often in collaboration with external partners. Drawing on your solid IT background, you’ll take on a technically substantive role in the projects you contribute to.
Working as a Cyber Security Scientist at TNO offers plenty of variety. You will work on multiple projects simultaneously, collaborating with colleagues from your own department as well as other (IT-related) disciplines. Depending on your personal interests and talents, your work may range from contributing to short-term consultancy assignments for clients to participating in long-term research projects or a combination of both. Developing proof-of-concepts and contributing to new technology development will be key aspects of your role. Since this position involves frequent collaboration and work for and with clients, strong social skills are essential.

What we expect from you

Creative problem-solving is second nature to you. You have a passion for technology and a drive to uncover how things truly work. You dive deep into your field and confidently speak up when it comes to your expertise. But you’re not just a star behind the screen. You excel in teamwork within project teams and in communicating with clients and colleagues. And if you hit a roadblock or face challenges, you’re quick to raise the alarm so that you can tackle the issue together with your teammates.
What else do you bring to the table?

  • A completed master’s degree or PhD, preferably in computer science, informatics, or another technical field.
  • Affinity for complex ICT infrastructures or a willingness to learn about them.
  • A keen interest in the latest technological developments and the drive to continuously seek innovation.
  • A hacker’s mindset: you also look at "what’s under the hood".
  • Strong communication skills for engaging effectively with colleagues, (international) partners, and clients.

What you'll get in return

Challenging and varied work with a real impact. And plenty of opportunities as, at TNO, you are in charge of shaping your career. We offer a gross monthly salary between € 3.600,- and € 5.600,- (based on your knowledge and experience), 8% holiday pay, a 13th month bonus of 8.33% and a flex budget (5.58% + € 180). In addition, you will be given every opportunity to develop yourself.

TNO offers optional employee benefits, enabling you to tailor your benefits package to match your personal situation. You may also expect:
