Internship | Thermoplastic composites for Lightweight Functional and Sustainable Components
About this position
Thermoplastic composites (TPC) are a family of fiber reinforced polymeric composites that are easy to process, easy to shape, and recyclable. These characteristics make them very interesting for many industrial applications. For example in the transport sector, TPCs are becoming more important since upcoming environmental legislation will force vehicle manufacturers to incorporate a high percentage of recyclable materials in their products. Other sectors, such as the aviation industry, also require lightweight TPCs to help mitigate the carbon footprint of their processes and operation. The Sustainable Mobility research group at TNO is developing new TPCs technologies, and within this scope welcomes students who are interested to work on the following topics: 1. Hybrid TPCs - interface technology of thermoplastic composites; 2. Recycling via recipe and processing optimization of thermoplastic composites; 3. Additive manufacturing (3D printing) of thermoplastic composites; 4. Mechanical testing of thermoplastic composites.
