Internship | Energy Prediction Digital Twin for Electric Vehicles Integrating CARLA into MATLAB/Simulink

To this effect, we analyse the electric energy implications from grid to wheel and research methods to optimize energy usage using digital twins.
What will be your role?
Your assignment, should you choose to accept, will involve playing a pivotal role in the development and demonstration of electric vehicle digital twins. You will have the opportunity to apply a Model-based System Engineering (MBSE) process to develop the digital twin. Your responsibilities will include integrating CARLA with Simulink for realistic testing scenarios, and optimizing energy usage through innovative digital twin development. Further details of the assignment are open to discussion and will be determined in consultation with you. The length of the assignment is also to be adjusted according to the needs of your educational institution.
You will be joining a dynamic team of researchers dedicated to advancing sustainable transportation solutions. Our team at TNO Powertrains focusses on supporting electric transport solutions, such as charging hubs, charge planning and maximizing battery life. What we expect from you
- You are a master student in a relevant field, for example automotive technology, computer science, electrical engineering or related field.
- Knowledge in Matlab/Simulink.
- Knowledge in Python.
- Knowledge in Model-based Systems Engineering.
- You enjoy developing innovative solutions to technically challenging problems and have the right mix of intellectual curiosity and pragmatism.

The selection process

Important to be aware of before applying:
- Before the start of the internship, the internship agreement from TNO needs to be signed. For students at a college or university based in the Netherlands, TNO uses the UNL-template (supplemented with a number of specific agreements from TNO). For students of foreign and MBO educational institutions, the TNO internship agreement applies. TNO does not sign any other internship agreements.
- Before the start of the internship, the educational institution will need to confirm in writing that:
- you are enrolled at the educational institution during the internship, and;
- the internship takes place as part of the programme of the study.
- The confirmation of educational institution takes place by signing the UNL template or forms prepared by TNO.
- Interns at TNO must be in possession of a Dutch residential address at the start of the internship. Performance of internship activities from abroad is not possible.
