Business Developer Green Hydrogen Production | Delft

Contributing to the energy transition. Envision it. Become a business developer at TNO.

About this position

As a business developer, you’ll work on developing and marketing new value propositions. With TNO's wide range of technical disciplines, system knowledge, and experience, you will support companies, industrial clusters, and institutions in the transition from fossil to sustainable material and energy management.

What will be your role?

As a Business Developer, you will play a pivotal role in the further development and commercialization of electrolysis technology for green hydrogen production. While this technology is still in its early stages, TNO is globally recognized as a leader in advancing more efficient, cost-effective, and sustainable solutions. We collaborate with national and international partners, working on technological breakthroughs through both bilateral projects and large-scale public-private partnerships, such as VoltaChem, the Electrolyzer Makersplatform, and ISPT Hydrohub.

Your Role in this Position
In this role, you will support companies throughout the hydrogen value chain, from future green hydrogen operators and project developers to high-tech manufacturers working on materials, components, and systems for electrolysers. Your core responsibilities will include developing and selling R&D projects, negotiating contracts and licensing agreements, conducting market research, and expanding TNO's industry and partner network. Additionally, you will play a vital role in supporting the management of the Industry division in developing and validating our proposition portfolio.

This role offers an ideal balance between autonomy and teamwork. You will collaborate closely with leading industrial and academic partners, as well as scientists, engineers, and business development experts at TNO. Together, you will identify industry challenges and develop scientific and technological solutions that can be implemented at the client’s site.

What we expect from you

Key Responsibilities:

  • Actively contribute to TNO’s national and international hydrogen strategy.
  • Define commercial strategies and develop the most suitable value propositions for target markets and customers, in collaboration with TNO experts and consultants.
  • Identify, develop, and convert business-to-business opportunities and shared research projects for both new and existing clients in the hydrogen and equipment supply chain.
  • Identify, develop, and secure subsidy opportunities in cooperation with partners and customers from industry and academia.
  • Manage the entire business development process, from the initial phase to successful transaction closure, including project monitoring and aftercare. The opportunity to become a project director for large-scale R&D programs is available.
  • Negotiate intellectual property (IP) and contractual terms, supported by TNO’s IP & Contracting department.
  • Communicate VoltaChem and TNO’s activities and results via various channels, including the website, trade fairs, presentations, and social media, in collaboration with the marketing and communications team.
  • Build and maintain a professional network within the hydrogen, equipment, component, and EPC industries, as well as strategic account management for TNO's key hydrogen accounts.
  • Further develop large hydrogen ecosystems, particularly with the Dutch high-tech industry.

This position offers a unique opportunity to leverage your strategic and commercial skills in a rapidly growing and promising market. You will work at the forefront of green energy, contributing to groundbreaking innovations that will shape the future of energy production. Moreover, you will have the opportunity to establish yourself as a key figure in hydrogen production, making a lasting impact on sustainable solutions on a global scale.
