Process Engineer Thin Film Perovskite Technology | Eindhoven

Jouw stempel drukken op onze tijd? Kom werken bij TNO als process engineer in Eindhoven!

About this position

Do you want to commit to the energy transition and develop future generations of solar panels? As Process Engineer Thin Film Perovskite Technology, you will be working on the technical operation and improvement of a large range of solar systems and processes to provide the best possible way to develop and industrialize new solar PV technology and its very diverse applications. All this to make the energy transition possible and to optimally position the Dutch business community. Interested? The Solar Research groups of TNO consist of a diverse and international team of about 80 professionals in Eindhoven (NB) and Petten (NH). Together with industrial and scientific partners and clients, the group works on research and development in the field of solar technologies and its integration into surfaces in our living environment. To this end, we have excellent technical facilities and in-depth expertise on all aspects of the PV value chain; from small solar cells to scale-up processes on semi-industrial pilot lines. Furthermore, these solar cells and modules must have a circular design and be intrinsically reliable and safe. This entails new solar cell design, new process and equipment development, reliability and lifetime testing, prototyping, field testing, development of advanced characterization and performance models. Our ambition is to support the energy transition by delivering sustainable, reliable and highly efficient solar technologies which can be integrated everywhere.

We are looking for a Process Engineer thin-film perovskite technology.

As a thin-film Process Engineer, you will be responsible for independently creating functional thin layers using wet (slot die coating) process techniques.. More information can be found here.

The Solar team you will work in is a very diverse, international team with knowledge and know-how from a wide range of backgrounds. Our work requires real team effort. You will spend most of your time with the team in our labs where the machines are, but also requires collaboration with colleagues within the Eindhoven (and Petten) Solar offices. The positions are located mainly on the High Tech Campus and Brainport Industries Campus hotspots in Eindhoven, where you have every chance of inspiring contacts with other labs and companies.

What we expect from you

You have or want to acquire solid technical knowledge about solar cell and solar module equipment. You are hands-on and do not shy away from opening up a machine. You are interested in spending most of your time working with the sheet-to-sheet equipment and process, and work with various solutions and inks to optimize results. You are open to learn new processes and techniques. You like working together with other engineers and in multidisciplinary teams in an R&D environment.

In addition, we expect you to have:

  • HBO level (or MBO plus with extensive work experience) in a technical or natural sciences field
  • Demonstrable experience with wet layer depositions (slot die, inkjet, extrusion, gravure printing, and screen printing are relevant)
  • Demonstrable experience working with complex coating machines that produce coatings at an area of several hundred square centimeters
  • Likes, or even prefers, to work in a lab environment
  • Insight in fluid dynamics, awareness of the concept of "process window" that will help optimizing the coating of new ink systems
  • Knowledge on various types of solvents, based on their compatibility, toxicity, and rheology.
  • Excellent team player skills
  • Good oral and written communication skills in English
  • Experience in working in an R&D environment
