Internship | Workover Fluids for Hydrostatic Wells

In this project, you will learn about the physical / chemical processes surrounding foams and reversible seals that are intended for this application. Your work consists of developing novel formulations and testing their properties under relevant conditions (e.g. high pressure). Physical and chemical analyses are also part of your work such as TGA, SEM, FTIR, rheology surface tension, and more. You will help us understand the complex behaviour that results from combining diverse materials such as nanomaterials, polymers, and surfactants. The experiments will be designed based on prior research and combined with the innovative nanomaterials technology of TNO. The internship will last for at least 4 months, and longer durations are possible if preferred by the candidate.

You are a proactive, pragmatic, and independent university or master’s student with a background in one of the following areas: Chemistry or Chemical Engineering. Knowledge and affinity to physical chemistry is a requirement as well as a hands-on mentality. Experience with polymers and rheology is a plus. Good communication skills in English, particularly for presenting your work and writing reports, is expected. Depending on the requirements of the university, the project can be combined with a master’s thesis.

Important to be aware of before applying:

• Before the start of the internship, the internship agreement from TNO needs to be signed. For students at a college or university based in the Netherlands, TNO uses the UNL-template (supplemented with a number of specific agreements from TNO). For students of foreign and MBO educational institutions, the TNO internship agreement applies. TNO does not sign any other internship agreements.
• Before the start of the internship, the educational institution will need to confirm in writing that:
  • 1) you are enrolled at the educational institution during the internship, and;
  • 2) the internship takes place as part of the programme of the study.
• The confirmation of educational institution takes place by signing the UNL template or forms prepared by TNO.
• Interns at TNO must be in possession of a Dutch residential address at the start of the internship. Performance of internship activities from abroad is not possible.
