As an IT Consultant in the Advanced Computing Engineering research group, you’ll work on projects that truly make a difference. What will be your role?
The energy sector faces big challenges, like aligning energy consumption, generation, storage, and conversion. This alignment happens on many levels, from optimizing household energy use to setting agreements on peak management within an energy community. Digitalization enables decision-making across these levels, but how can you ensure such a complex system keeps working? Here, you play a crucial role.
You’ll work on multiple projects at once, developing new ideas and solutions for the energy transition alongside your colleagues. Your home base within TNO is the Advanced Computing Engineering group, where we explore how information technology can support businesses and governments. We work on data analysis, simulations, and the interaction between people and complex data-processing systems.
Our teams in Groningen and The Hague consist of over fifty experts, from researchers and system architects to IT consultants. We’re a diverse, social team, ready to support you. At the same time, we’re curious about what we can learn from you!
What we expect from you
You guide clients and analyze questions from different perspectives. You enjoy visiting clients and are comfortable holding up a mirror when necessary. You also work well in a team. Additionally, you bring:
- A Master’s degree, PhD, or equivalent professional experience in computer science, technical business administration, business information technology, or a related field.
- A few years of experience in the energy sector, with room for personal growth.
- Knowledge of energy transition goals and digitalization challenges, and familiarity with developments in the energy sector.
- Understanding of operational processes in the energy sector, such as energy trading and grid management, and central ICT systems for these processes. You’re motivated to explore innovations in these processes.
- Interest in ICT developments like Artificial Intelligence, information security, and high-performance computing.

The selection process
Please apply before the 17th of November, 2024. The selection process comprises two interview rounds. The preliminary interview takes place on the 26th or the 28th of November, 2024. The second interview round has been scheduled for the 5th or 10th of December, 2024. In a final meeting we will discuss the terms of employment and your tailored benefits package. We aim to finalize the entire process within four weeks.
The selection process may include an online assessment and a reference check.
A certificate of Conduct (VOG) is required before starting a new job at TNO.
