About this position
The Systems Biology group is committed to enhancing public health through lifestyle interventions. We are on the lookout for a talented data scientist to join our team, someone who is passionate about solving challenging problems related to lifestyle and health.
What will be your role?
As a data scientist, you will be involved in a diverse range of tasks and projects aimed at understanding human biology, improving health, and creating innovations for our industrial partners in this field. You will work in project teams focused on analyzing a wide range of research data, that could include sensor data, physiological data (including biological ‘omics’ data), questionnaire data and more. Your responsibilities will include developing and applying analytical methods for health data, using machine learning to support self-management of health, and developing tools and creative solutions for our industrial partners. You will be an essential part of our data science team, contributing to the innovations and developments within the team.

The Microbiology and Systems Biology (MSB) department has a reputation for finding innovative solutions for diverse challenges in nutrition and health, which has earned it international acclaim. MSB uses its extensive expertise to create tailor-made innovations for companies in nutrition, pharma, chemicals, biotechnology, and personal care. At the heart of these innovations is scientific research. You will be working in a science-oriented environment where your expertise could, among other things, be used in human volunteer studies implementing Do-It-Yourself methods for lifestyle-disease prevention. The multidisciplinary nature of TNO ensures that you will work on diverse projects and teams.
What we expect from you
We are seeking a team player who is comfortable working in multidisciplinary project teams. You are passionate about data science in relation to scientific research and have a demonstrated interest in this field. You have a hands-on, results oriented and proactive work attitude. You are eager to tackle new challenges and contribute to finding cutting-edge solutions for the diverse challenges we face in our projects. Excellent communication skills are a must, as you will need to convey insight across various disciplines and to project team members in different roles. Ideally, you have recently obtained a Master’s degree in computing science, data science, artificial intelligence, biomedical science or engineering, or a related field.

The selection process
Please apply before the 6th of December, 2024. The selection process comprises two interview rounds. In a final meeting we will discuss the terms of employment and your tailored benefits package. We aim to finalize the entire process within four weeks.
