Consultant Innovation

We’re facing significant challenges: from fossil fuel-induced climate change to balancing housing development, nature conservation, and sustainable energy infrastructure in the scarce space available. In addition, the changing geopolitical situation requires new ways of working together, as well as a critical look at our international dependencies. The department:
You’ll be working at TNO Vector, the centre for social innovation and strategy, within the Economics & Innovation Policy department. Here, we combine technology, innovation, and policy knowledge to find solutions to major societal issues.
With a diverse team of around 25 researchers and consultants, we’re working on a future-proof innovation climate for the Netherlands and Europe. We approach problems from different perspectives and translate ideas into concrete applications.

Your work includes:

• You’ll be working on national and European projects focusing on:

1. Current policies for technology, innovation, and industry.
2. Innovation in ecosystems.
3. Strategic autonomy.
4. Innovation analysis and impact on topics such as AI, quantum technology, cyber security, high-tech devices, and satellite communications.

• You’ll develop new methods and tools for policy-making, such as forecasting trends, designing strategies, and measuring impact.
• In doing so, you’ll use the latest scientific insights and apply them in your recommendations and analyses.
• You’ll focus on socio-technical transitions, such as the energy transition, the transition in manufacturing, material innovations, and digitalisation.
• You’ll perform data-driven analysis and foresight studies for R&D and innovation strategies relevant to the Netherlands and Europe.
• You’ll translate your insights into concrete recommendations and share them with policymakers, companies, and society through reports, notes, and presentations.

We’re looking for a driven and curious professional who wants to make an impact with us. Do you identify with the following?

• A completed MSc in a relevant field (e.g. Innovation Policy, Business, IT & Management, Industrial Innovation, Business Economics, or similar).
• Interest or experience in connecting technical innovation with societal impact.
• An understanding of systems thinking (such as system innovation and system dynamics) and experience in applying systems methodologies.
• Knowledge and experience of design and styling are a plus.
• Strong awareness of your environment: you understand and appreciate the interests of different stakeholders and act on them effectively.
• You’re a team player who gets energy from collaboration in an environment where dialogues are sometimes critical, but always constructive and respectful.
• You enjoy and find it interesting to have a lot of interaction with stakeholders relevant to your work, which comes easily to you.
• Your command of both Dutch and English is excellent, both spoken and in writing.

We offer a gross monthly salary between € 3,400,- and € 5,500,- (based on your knowledge and experience), 8% holiday pay, a 13th month bonus of 8.33% and a flex budget (5.58% + € 180). Please apply before the 18th of December, 2024. The selection process comprises two interview rounds. The preliminary interview takes place on the 15th or 16h of January, 2025. In a final meeting we will discuss the terms of employment and your tailored benefits package. We aim to finalize the entire process within four weeks.
