About this position

Combine human expertise and machine learning to develop smart, reliable, and sustainable solutions. Work on cutting-edge AI technologies at TNO in The Hague, Eindhoven, or Soesterberg.

What will be your role?

As a Scientist Applied AI, you will work on hybrid AI systems that combine human expertise with machine learning to tackle complex challenges. You contribute to projects with real-world impact, especially in the smart industry. Examples include:

  • Putting Generative AI into action: Develop technologies applicable to sectors such as industry, healthcare, and government.
  • Generating intelligent insights: Design AI systems that translate data into actionable insights, such as recycling advice for the smart industry or labor market applications.
  • Developing hybrid AI: Integrate knowledge models, such as ontologies and probabilistic logic, with machine learning to create more reliable and explainable AI systems.
  • Automated decision-making: Build systems capable of independently making complex decisions and adapting to changes, such as predictive maintenance in the industry.

You will collaborate with clients and colleagues on inspiring proof-of-concepts and prototypes, leveraging state-of-the-art techniques like generative AI, machine learning, ontologies, probabilistic models, and data integration tools. You will continuously learn and apply new methodologies to ensure your solutions remain ahead of the curve.

What we expect from you

You have a passion for AI and the ambition to not only understand new technologies but also apply them in practice. Your profile:

  • A master’s degree or PhD in artificial intelligence, computer science, systems engineering, or a related field.
  • Technical expertise in architecture and software development, including programming languages like Python and machine learning frameworks.
  • An interest in combining human knowledge with AI for explainable and reliable applications.
  • Experience with techniques such as ontologies, probabilistic logic, and generative AI, or a willingness to grow in these areas.
  • A client-focused mindset: strong communication skills and the ability to think proactively about practical solutions to complex client challenges.

We offer a gross monthly salary between € 3.600,- and € 5.600,- (based on your knowledge and experience), 8% holiday pay, a 13th month bonus of 8.33% and a flex budget (5.58% + € 180). The selection process

Please apply before the 12th of January, 2025. The selection process comprises two interview rounds. The preliminary interview takes place on the 20th of January, 2025. The second interview round has been scheduled for the 27th of January, 2025. In a final meeting we will discuss the terms of employment and your tailored benefits package. We aim to finalize the entire process within four weeks.

The selection process may include an online assessment and a reference check.

A certificate of Conduct (VOG) is required before starting a new job at TNO.
