About this position
The Metabolic Health Research (MHR) department is dedicated to advancing knowledge and technology in biomedical health and drug development. We focus on developing disruptive technologies that make the discovery, development, and production of therapeutic drugs faster, cheaper, and greener. Our state-of-the-art laboratories are located at the Leiden BioScience Park. This scientist position in the Team Human Cell Biology offers a unique opportunity to work with advanced cell- and tissue-based models in applied preclinical research, collaborating with various industrial and academic partners. What will be your role?
As a scientist in the Human Cell Biology team within department MHR, you will engage in diverse projects focusing on the pharmaceutical application of various preclinical ADME models. These models include (stem) cell and tissue-based models, ranging from organ-on-a-chip to whole organ perfusion models.
You will work alongside a team of scientists, project managers, and technicians to translate industry (unmet) research needs into experimental designs using established preclinical models developed within TNO. You will be involved in both short-term business-to-business projects and innovative long-term projects, contributing to new knowledge and technology development, thereby strengthening the knowledge position of the team. You will (help) prepare grant submissions, study plans, reports and supervise technicians during the execution of the projects. Depending on the project, you will be involved in communication of the results to the customers.
What we expect from you
We are looking for a highly motivated and proactive Research Scientist with:
- A PhD in Pharmacology, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
- A strong focus on pharmacokinetics, metabolism, organ-on-a-chip technology, with an interest in technical engineering.
- 1-3 years of relevant work experience would be a plus.
- Proactive and motivated attitude, eager to explore new ideas.
- Ability to work independently and at the same time being a strong team player.
- Customer-focused mindset with a commitment to providing tailored solutions.
- Strong inter-disciplinary connection skills.
- Result-driven, creative, flexible, and excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken.

The selection process
