TNO plays a key role in shaping the AI agenda nationally and across Europe. From co-founding the Netherlands AI Coalition to pioneering projects like developing an open language model for transparent AI applications, TNO is at the forefront of innovation.
As a Strategic Innovation Lead, you’ll build on this solid foundation. With your vision, network, and leadership, you’ll drive strategic collaborations and ambitious programs that bridge technology and societal impact. Together, we’ll create a sustainable and inclusive future where technology truly matters.
The role
You’re more than a project leader – you’re an architect of innovation. In this role, you will:
- Create impactful partnerships: Bring together businesses, research institutes, and governments to form sustainable collaborations.
- Lead high-impact programs: Develop and manage public-private partnerships that drive technological and societal change.
- Work across multiple levels: Operate regionally, nationally, and on a European scale as TNO’s representative in strategic collaborations.
- Secure funding: Obtain resources from public and private sources to make large-scale innovations possible.
- Inspire stakeholders: Share your vision, build consensus, and motivate others to align with shared goals.
Your work will deliver societal impact and technological progress.
What we expect from you
You are strategic, collaborative, and results-oriented. You naturally bring people together and translate complex ideas into tangible outcomes. Additionally, you bring:
- A completed MSc or PhD.
- At least five years of experience in setting up and leading consortia or innovation programs.
- A minimum of ten years of experience in AI, data, or technology-driven projects.
- A proven track record in securing funding from public and private sources.
- A clear vision of innovation and the ability to inspire others to follow your lead.

We offer a gross monthly salary between €6.000,- and €8.500,- (based on your knowledge and experience), 8% holiday pay, a 13th month bonus of 8.33% and a flex budget (5.58% + € 180). The selection process
Please apply before the 26th of January, 2025. The selection process comprises two interview rounds. The preliminary interview takes place on the 4th of February, 2025. The second interview round has been scheduled for the 7th of February, 2025. In a final meeting we will discuss the terms of employment and your tailored benefits package. We aim to finalize the entire process within four weeks.
The selection process may include an online assessment and a reference check.
A certificate of Conduct (VOG) is required before starting a new job at TNO.
As you will be working for clients in the domain of defence and security, a Certificate of No Objection issued by AIVD (The Dutch General Information and Security Service) is mandatory. This means you will have to undergo a security screening. Read more about security screening.
