Technology and Innovation Liaison | Japan

Want to make your mark on our time? Become a Technology and Innovation Liaison at TNO in Japan!

About this position

Geopolitical and economic developments, and their impact on high-tech, are increasingly playing a role in the impact of innovations globally. Governments encourage companies and knowledge institutions to take measures to reduce strategic dependencies, maintain technological leadership and acquire strategic indispensability, and are also looking at more intensive cooperation with like-minded countries. This is also the case in the Netherlands, as illustrated in the National Technology Strategy. TNO aims to coordinate economically relevant measures, create added value for the Dutch business community and the knowledge sector through joint research and innovation in advanced high-tech areas in Japan. Are you passionate about contributing to societal and economic well-being through technological collaboration between Japan and the Netherlands? At TNO we offer you the chance to play a key role in this vision. If you’re ready to make a difference and propel your career forward in an exciting and meaningful direction, we invite you to explore this unique opportunity with us.

What will be your role?

In this role, you will (co-)develop innovative propositions and position them with strategic stakeholders, accelerating our various technology roadmaps. To enable this you will have access to a group of dedicated experts that master in depth knowledge of innovative technologies and methodologies. You will bear responsibility for strategic business and partnership development in close collaboration with key account managers that oversee the private, public and academic partners.

Through market studies, in depth observations of key trends and development, organising knowledge missions and business meetings, you will be responsible for building a knowledge bridge between Japan and the Netherlands by connecting various stakeholders with overlapping interest in key enabling technologies. Such as Japanese and Dutch government organisations, research institutes, established high-tech companies and startups. Your efforts will result in contract research projects and joint R&D programs that contribute structurally to the scientific roadmap of TNO and our public and private partners in the Netherlands. You will also build a stronger governance between public organisations in both countries resulting in strategic alliance and knowledge sharing, including top technological universities and other academic organisations.

In day-to-day operations, you will team up with research, program and project managers, and experts from relevant research departments in the Netherlands, such as automotive and semi-con consultants and scientists. You will also be the liaison between TNO and various governmental organisations in the Netherlands that play an important role in the knowledge, economic and political positioning. You work in a team of dedicated TNO representatives in Japan and in close alignment with the Innovation Attachés at the Netherlands Embassy in Tokyo. In this role you will report directly to the Regional Director Asia Pacific.

What we expect from you

You bring a deep understanding of Japanese business culture and a proven ability to foster strategic partnerships across public, academic, and private sectors.
