About this position

We aim to develop revolutionary technologies that make the discovery, development, and production of therapeutic drugs faster, cheaper, and greener. Our state-of-the-art laboratories are located at the Leiden BioScience Park.

What will be your role?

As a Biomedical Research Analyst in the MHR team, you will work on a variety of projects that contribute to the development of new drugs, particularly for diseases related to obesity-disrupted metabolism. These projects focus on biological issues such as cardiovascular diseases, liver metabolism, fibrosis, and diabetic nephropathy. You will work with various pre-clinical in-vivo mouse models and apply various analytical techniques and biotechnical procedures. The research is conducted in a close-knit team of professionals in an open and informal culture.

What will you do?

  • Prepare and conduct experiments using various techniques, including performing biotechnical procedures and surgeries on laboratory animals (mice), histology, microscopy, tissue culture, cell culture, ELISAs, and various biochemical assays.
  • Analyze, process, and present experimental data in close collaboration with the scientists and project leaders who are ultimately responsible for the projects.
  • Advise and collaborate with scientists on the techniques to be used and the setup of procedures and analysis methods.
  • Keep up with developments in the field and identify new opportunities.
  • Once a month, you will have a weekend shift in the animal facility (under very good working conditions).
  • Ensure the quality of work execution.

What we expect from you

  • You have at least a Bachelor Degree, preferably with a background in medical biology, cell biology, molecular biology, and/or biochemistry.
  • You are a highly motivated medical biological/biochemical/cell biological (research) analyst with laboratory experience in this field.
  • Experience with surgical techniques and biotechnical procedures is necessary. We ask you to clearly indicate your experience in this area in your CV and/or motivation letter.
  • An article 13f.2 WOD or article 9 WOD qualification and competence is a necessity.
  • Histology experience and experience with managing breeding lines is a plus.
  • You have good written and verbal communication skills in English.
