Project manager energy transition models and scenarios | Amsterdam
Want to make your mark on our time? Come work at TNO as a Project Manager in Amsterdam!
What will be your role?
Introduction
The Techno Economic Energy Transition Studies (TES) department works with an international, multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers and economists on solutions for techno-economic issues of the energy transition. The research focuses on the technological (im)possibilities of changes in the energy system and the economic (in)feasibility of innovations. With this knowledge, long-term scenarios are calculated in order to be able to substantiate the impact of policy choices at an early stage. Are you ready to drastically accelerate the energy and materials transition? Then come work as a Project Manager at TES!
The TES research group has approximately 50 professionals with backgrounds in econometrics, chemistry, physics, economics, energy science & technology, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering. For the Models & Scenarios expertise team, we are looking for a Project Manager.
The team focuses on conducting energy transition research with energy system models. The modelers develop energy scenarios at the national, European and global level aiming at supporting decision-making for a low-carbon energy transition. For example, the OPERA model is a cost-optimization model of the integral energy system of the Netherlands and it used to develop sustainable energy scenarios up to 2050. These scenarios are used to provide (policy) advice on how the complex energy system develops, and to assess the impact of certain (policy) choices.
What will you be doing?
Naturally, you are interested in the techno-economic aspects of the energy transition. As Project Manager, you will focus on projects related to modelling and energy system analysis in the Netherlands, Europe and beyond.
What is the impact of policy choices in the energy system? How can we reach a CO2-neutral energy system by 2050? What is the cost-optimal energy mix for the Netherlands in 2030, 2040 and 2050? A wide range of stakeholders are involved: companies, branch organisations, the Dutch government, the European Union. Large and complex social issues where TNO looks for solutions in projects and consortia. You lead these complex projects, communicate about them with stakeholders and manage the various interests and expectations.
You know what it is about in terms of content, but project management is your core business. You manage your team and the ambitions of the team members; passionate scientists where the sky is the limit, but does this fit with the budget and scope of the project? And sometimes it also works the other way around and you have to take a path that the stakeholders do not like, but is necessary to solve the problem. You bring the projects to a successful conclusion within budget and on time, ensure that we achieve impact and make way for a follow-up: the continuation of the research line and a continuation of assignment flows. You help your team by making, internal connections with other areas of expertise and by working together to further develop knowledge.
What we expect from you
As a Project Manager you connect with your project team members and create an inspiring working environment for them. You see, appreciate and stimulate everyone's talents.
What else you bring:
- A relevant university bachelor's or master's degree.
- You have a least 3 years of proven experience in project management in the energy (research or consultancy) field.
- Affinity with accelerating the energy and materials transition and with the technical, model-based, systems and analytical side of energy systems;
- You preferably have a (inter)national relevant network (modelling of energy systems, energy scenarios and energy transition research) and experience with leading European projects is a plus.
