Quantum internet enabled by space
Satellite links are increasingly considered as a viable solution to enable quantum communication over long distances. Yet when does space turn out to be a better route than ground? What does an efficient ground/space quantum network look like? What kind of trade-offs have to be made between space and ground so quantum communication can deliver its full potential?
TNO Quantum Scientist Dr. Gustavo Casto do Amaral has been working on these questions for more that 10 years. In the recently published paper 'A Best-Path Approach to the Design of a Hybrid Space-Ground Quantum Network with Dynamic Constraints’ he answers these questions and explains why a hybrid ground-space network features the best performance over long distance.'
