Description
The Autosorb is a versatile instrument that can perform both in porosimetry mode or chemisorption mode. Porosimetry determines material properties such as: pore size distribution, total pore volume, specific surface area and BET. Chemisorption involves the analysis of chemical bonds between solids and gases, by means of thermal programming and identification of gas composition. This principle is widely applied in the analysis of catalysts.
Technical details
Porosimetry is typically performed at liquid nitrogen temperature, on samples with a specific surface area from 5 m2/g to several thousands of m2/g. Chemisorption has a large range of measurement parameters, varying from gases (H2, NH3, Ar, CO2, air), temperatures (room temperature to 1100°C) and gas analysis techniques (TCD, MS).
Additional techniques
The combination of a temperature-programmed furnace, a flowing gas and downstream gas analysis, makes it possible to analyze all kinds of solid-gas interactions
Applications
Porosimetry: activated carbon, biochar, catalyst (carriers), zeolites, etc. Chemisorption: TPO/TPD/TPR on catalysts
