Description
Ultra-High Performance Liquid Chromatography (U-HPLC) is an advanced form of liquid chromatography used to separate components in complex mixtures. Identification and quantification of the separated components is in this system done with two detectors:
1) the UV-VIS detector measures the absorption of light in the ultraviolet and visible parts of the spectrum (UV/Vis) at specific wavelengths. It is one of the most commonly used detection methods for compounds with chromophores, such as aromatic or conjugated systems.
2) the ELS detector works by evaporating the mobile phase solvent and then measuring the light scattering pattern of the remaining solid particles. This type of detector is suitable for compounds that do not have strong UV absorption, such as lipids, sugars, and fatty acids.
