Modular Compact Rheometer
- Category:
- Rheometer
- Brand:
- Anton Paar
- Type:
- MCR 702 multidrive
Description
The MCR 702 is a Dynamic Shear Rheometer used to determine the rheological properties of viscous materials. A sample is built in between 2 circular plates of 8 or 25 mm and then these plates are rotated, causing shearing to occur. During the test, the test piece is in a small climate chamber.
Technical details
The temperature in the climate chamber can be varied between approximately -20 and +180 degrees Celsius. The device can be programmed to perform various test cycles automatically. This device is calibrated under ISO/IEC 17025.
Additional techniques
When researching bitumen, in addition to rheology, FT-IR spectra and/or molecular mass distribution are often determined.
Applications
The setup is mainly used to determine the properties of bitumen. Bitumen is known to behave more brittle at lower temperatures and that its behavior also changes with aging. The properties of bitumen largely determine the lifespan of the asphalt in which it is used.
