Description

A rheometer is an instrument that characterizes the flow behavior of materials. This characterization can be performed over a wide range, from aqueous fluids and slurries to fully cured polymers, using either rotational mode (viscosity) or dynamic vibration mode (DMA). Measurements can be programmed as a function of temperature, time, shear rate, frequency, etc. Parameters such as (dynamic) viscosity, modulus, viscoelastic behavior, etc. can be determined.

Technical details

Temperature range: -40°C to 600°C

Normal force range: 0.005 - 50 N

Spindles: cone-plate 50 mm en 25 mm, parallel plate 40 mm, concentric cylinder + spindle, disposable spindels: 8 and 25 mm

Gap control

Additional techniques

Since the force on the sample and the distance between the base plate and the spindle can be both measured and programmed, additional measurement techniques become possible, such as tack and penetration testing

Applications

Measurement of rheological properties of liquids such as ink, oil, slurries and paint. Viscoelastic behaviour of liquids and (molten) polymers, but also foodstuffs, curing reactions, evaporation, crystallisation, sol-gel, can be measured.
